  • Vale - Jack O’Toole.
1995-2022

Dear Mordi-Brae Community,

With great sadness, we inform all club Members that former player, Jack O’Toole, passed away on Christmas Day after a brave battle with cancer, aged 27.

He was a very skilled and dedicated Mordi-Brae junior footballer. A one-club player with 10 years of service from 2003 to 2012, amassing 155 games and 54 goals.

Throughout his junior career, Jack became a very reliable, versatile and team-orientated player often having to sacrifice his own game for the team's betterment. He was a very talented and coachable player, essentially the ideal junior footballer role model who became a fine young man and a talented cricketer.

Jack was part of the following successful Mordi-Brae teams:
• 2003 U9s Lightening Premiership
• 2008 U13s Premiership
• 2012 U17s Championship Carnival Winners

Jack also received the following club awards:
• 2004 U10s Coaches Award
• 2007 U12s Most Dedicated
• 2008 U13s Most Dedicated
• 2010 U15s Best and Fairest

Our sincere condolences to his wife Emily and the O’Toole family.
❤️🤍❤️🤍 RIP Jack

  • It was brilliant to see our own Pat Torpey (2022 Div 1 U18 Girls Premiership Coach) be awarded last night as one of the recipients of the SMJFL Outstanding Service Award, presented by SMJFL Board Member and MBJFC Life Member, Tracey Davies.

It’s a great acknowledgement Pat, of your contribution to junior footy and to Mordi-Brae.
A huge congratulations from all of us!

SMJFL Outstanding Service Award 2022
Patrick Torpey – MBJFC
(presented by Tracey Davies)

Pat first began his journey at Mordi-Brae with his son in Auskick where he was one of the coaches for two years.

From there he was involved with his son's team as a runner, assistant coach and then coach from Under 9's through to Under 15's.

Pat was one of Mordi-Brae’s first girl coaches at the commencement of the MBJFC girls’ program. He first coached the Under 12 girls and most recently coached the Under 18 team for the past two seasons.

Pat Torpey has been a fundamental part of the Mordi-Brae program / partnership with La Trobe University known as “Prepare to play”.

Internally Pat also set up a program within Mordi-Brae promoting a 'buddy' system with the Under 10 girls' team and Under 18 girls' team over the last 3 seasons. This initiative has proven to be highly successful within Mordi-Brae.

Pat has also been the BBQ guy every Sunday night for several seasons. He is the man behind the BBQ every Sunday night holding court and feeding the Mordi Brae footballers.

His dedication, friendly demeanor, and willingness to help for the past 11 years at Mordi-Brae has been nothing short of amazing.

Pat has recently taken it upon himself to register for the AFL Level 2 coaching course. Pat is a school principal, so like a lot of people is a busy man, however he is always looking at ways to upskill and develop to ensure he can give back to the kids.

Pat is a well-deserved recipient of this Award. #mbjfc #smjfl

Kris comes to us with a wealth of experience and great football knowledge which will be immensely beneficial, not just to the Under 18s but our entire girls' football program.

With 184 Senior football games as a player, Kris has also been heavily involved off-field and is a fantastic club person. His experience includes:
- 4 Years Parkdale Men's Reserves Coach
- 1 Year Parkdale Men's Seniors Assistant Coach

Kris was also a major driving force in establishing the Parkdale Vultures Women's side in 2019 and has been an Assistant Coach for their past 4 seasons.

A local family man, who is also a teacher a Mentone Grammar, Kris will be a brilliant asset to our club. We send a big welcome to Kris, his wife Emma and their 5-month-old daughter Evie to the Mordi-Brae community.

  • After a fantastic return to a full season in 2022, we’re looking toward 2023 being even bigger and better with more players, more teams and more fun.

We are also seeking expressions of interest from all of our members who are looking to get involved and play a role in how our Club operates.

Mordi-Brae is built on the strength of our Volunteers, and in particular, the fantastic work that our Committee and Supporting Roles have done over the years.

To run a Club of our size smoothly and efficiently, we need many people to help. Not only does the saying, “many hands make light work” ring truer, but also having a diverse group of people involved allows us to use the fantastic mix of professional knowledge and experience within our community.

If you're considering getting involved in any way, big or small, we'd love to hear from you.
